"Accusations, Investigations, and Retaliations"

 

A lot of time is being wasted in this country with accusations, investigations, and retaliations from a government full of Skunks and Polecats who ain't doing much of anything else.  Reminds me of the time when old man Baxter Clements accused Jeremy Norris of sleeping with Mrs. Clements.  Oh, I forgot to mention that Old Man Clements owns the bank, and Norris is one of the county commissioners, so of course the press got hold of this real quick!

First thing was Norris said he never had nothing to do with the banker's wife, and besides, "she's so downright ugly, who in their right mind would have anything to do with her, anyway?"  To this Banker Clements replied, "well who ever said you was in your right mind, since you spend half the day in the corn squeezings jug, instead of doing your government job.  Well of course, the press was printing these comments, since there is nothing they like better than some juicy gossip.

The next we know, the folks in Nankipooh is divided right in half, with them choosing which side they wanted to believe about this controversy.  It got so heated in town, that Judge Jenkins decided to launch an investigation into to the whole mess.  This caused the bank to close up for a whole week, and the county commission quit meeting, since without Commissioner Norris, they did not have a quorum.

The result of all of this was that the town of Nankipooh had to pretty much close down for nearly a month, since nobody could get anything done.  Finally the Judge ruled that there was no evidence to support any of the claims about adultery or drunkenness.  The outcome of all of this was that the folks in Nankipooh had to suffer because two petty men did not like one another.

Now folks, let me tell you that this is exactly what is going on up there in DC right now.  The Skunks and the Polecats hate each other so much that they don't care about taking care of the country no more.  All they care about is make the other side look so bad, that they can't win the next election, and the press is right in there with them, slinging mud all over the place.

I say kick them all out of office until we get some folks up there who are more interested in running the country, than just beating the other side.

We have always been a nation who believes in the rule of law, and we have written a whole bunch of laws over the last couple of centuries just to prove the point.  The Constitution of the Good Old USA laid the framework for how these laws are supposed to work.  Things like "Innocent until proven Guilty".  You see, under Old King George's Law, if you got accused of breaking the law, you had to prove you didn't do it.  Another thing is the "Right to confront your Accuser".  That way your neighbor can't say you been stealing chickens, without you knowing who said it, and be able to get them to produce some facts as to your guilt.

Of course there has been a couple of times when the old ship of state has strayed off course, like back when that McCarthy fella was calling folks "Commies" and causing them to lose their jobs, and all sorts of other punishment without facts, or even a glance at "The Rule of Law".

They say that History is bound to repeat itself, and I'd say that's what we are seeing right now, what with all the gossip stories and downright lies being highlighted by the "News".  Let me just say this; Printing stories from "Anonymous Sources" without names or facts to support them is just "Gossip" and don't belong in the "News".

Now you probably know that Old Bascomb don't have no use for Professional Politicians, whether they be Skunks (Republicans) or Polecats (Democrats), and I'm starting to have a hard time finding a Journalist I can trust also.  With all the hatred between the two parties, and News Folks trying to cash in on whisper campaigns, it is hard to ferret out the truth, no matter how hard you try.

Let me just say this, don't believe anything, no matter who says it, if the story does not name who's telling it, with facts and dates to support it, and at least a few others who can testify to the truth and the facts being talked about.  Let's get back to "Rule of Law" and stop listening to "Anonymous Sources" and stories that can't be verified.

Remember, it ain't True or False just because you want it to be!

“Fake News or “Yellow Journalism”

With all of the back and forth between politicians and journalists, it is difficult to ferret out the truth in most issues facing America today.  While not subscribing to the theory of “Fake News”, I do find the stain of “Yellow Journalism” to be so stained as to resemble orange, while “Demagoguery” has become “Politics as Usual”.  The presence of un-verified stories in our news flow today is of unprecedented volume.  It seems that any juicy gossip or “un-confirmed source” story is quickly placed in the mix without hesitation in an attempt to “scoop” the competition.  The “Professional-Politician” uses these questionable reporting tactics as a diversion to what may actually be incriminating.

Meanwhile the population, the majority of which are divided into two camps of “Right” and “Left”, are easily distracted by the uproar, and align themselves with which ever set of “Facts” that support their own biased opinions.  Each side firmly believes they are correct.  If you do not believe this, then just watch the reporting of the same story on the evening news on two opposing major TV networks, and then try to objectively determine the “Real Truth”.

It is said that our governing officials and our press are mirrors of our society.  Well take a good look, and then remember, “Divide and Conquer”.  As long as this battle continues, there is no “Winner” for America!  Only tolerance and compromise between opposing viewpoints can triumph over those who wish the downfall of our great country.

Me and Old Bascomb have been calling the Republicans and the Democrats the "Skunks" and the "Polecats" for years now since, they quit running the government and started fighting with one another.  Here we go again, one of their main jobs is paying the bills, and they ain't done that right in more than a decade.  It don't matter who is in control, the other side won't let nothing pass through cause they want the other side to look bad for the next election.  Meanwhile the country is dead in the water, and neither side cares.

Oh they talk big, but like a wise old man said, "you can tell when a politician is lying, cause it starts as soon as his lips start to move".  As Old Bascomb once said, "the only job a professional politician is interested in is to get elected, get all the money they can get, and then get re-elected, nothing else matters to them".

My only question is, "how long are the American people gonna stand for this foolishness and fire the whole lot of them?"

Things was beginning to get a little crowded over in Nankipooh, what with the "Fountain City" getting bigger and bigger, so me and my Ace Reporter, Scoop Biggers, decided that we would move the Nankipooh Enquirer printing press a few miles up the road to Tommy-Town, Georgia.

So now the Nankipooh Enquirer has two banners, with the addition of the Tommy-Town Times, both being published here at the Biggers-Greer Plantation in Tommy-Town.

One of the best things about not living in the city is being so close to where all the good vittles are grown, such as pole beans, okra, fresh eggs, Georgia peaches, and of course, Home-Grown Tomatoes.  Now if there is one thing Old Bascomb knows something about, it is tomatoes, since my Grandpa was the champion Mater Man in the whole Chattahoochee Valley for many years.  Now I have been known to grow some pretty good tomatoes, but I am getting just a little lazy in my old age, and being here in Tommy-Town, there are a whole lot of places where you can buy maters just as good as the ones you grow yourself.  My favorite is Fitzgerald Farms over in Woodbury.  They got some mighty good maters over there and some mighty sweet peaches too.  They also got a couple of kids helping run the place, that will go out and hand pick you some fresh ones right off the vine.  It don't get no better than that!

Well I took some of those tomatoes up to some of my city friends up in Atlanta, and they thought they had done died and gone to heaven.  Now they are calling me the"Mater Man" and wanting me to fetch them up some fresh maters every week or so, but I told them that it was Grandpa who was the "Mater Man', besides, if I had to go up to Atlanta every week or so, I expect it would just about kill me.

I've been listening to a whole lotta folks telling everyone all the things that they think are wrong with the Good Old USA.  If you listen long enough, you might think that there ain't nothing right, so I decided to sit back and look at a few years of our country, and what it has done and what it has stood for.  If you look at the years between 1789 and 1989, you might notice about 200 years of the USA growing from an upstart little brat that defied the lords of Europe and two centuries later became the single most powerful nation in the world, since when the "Cold War" ended, there weren't but one superpower left  During those two centuries there were a lot of Presidents serving the country, some better than others, and some cutting a bigger swath than others.  However, they all shared a lot in common starting with the fact that they all came from that same section of humanity, which is really a minority group, that today seem to get blamed for everything bad and not remembered for much of the good.

Now let me see, what are some of the things that theses leaders accomplished over two centuries?  Well of course there is the fact that the USA is the single most powerful country in the world.  And then there is that thing about being the wealthyist country in the world.  The USA also has the largest and most successful middle class in the history of the world.  The Good Old USA also has the most successful Democratic Republic in world history, which has provided more equality and justice for all than ever seen before.  It is also the nation that has contributed more help and aid to the rest of the world than most other nations combined.  Americans have also done more dying all over the planet to insure peace and safety. than any other country.  We stopped aggression in WWI and in WWII, and stopped the threat of nuclear annihilation by ending the Cold War.  We have saved more people, fed more people, clothed more people than any other nation.

We have enjoyed the status of being number one in most categories that count, and have provided a standard of living for our citizens admired by the entire planet.  That was the first two hundred years of the Good Old USA.  During these last twenty five or thirty years we have come under attack from without as well as from within, as we are led to believe that we have not done well by our fellow mankind and have much to be ashamed of, and the blame has been laid on that same minority group that provided us with presidents like George and Ronald with Abe and some others in between.

This group of individuals as well as belonging to that one minority section of humanity also shared many other traits, such as belief in God, The Rule of Law, The challenge of being responsible for one's self, and respectful of others. These presidents also shared a belief in their country and an obligation to contribute as a citizen to the well being of all.  Great leaders are know by their works rather than their words, and it is time to demand work rather than words from our leaders today.. The only way the American Dream can be kept alive is for us to pull together in a united effort to maintain and enhance what so many before have worked so hard for.
