"From George to Ronald with Abe and a few others in between"

"From George to Ronald with Abe and a few others in between"

I've been listening to a whole lotta folks telling everyone all the things that they think are wrong with the Good Old USA.  If you listen long enough, you might think that there ain't nothing right, so I decided to sit back and look at a few years of our country, and what it has done and what it has stood for.  If you look at the years between 1789 and 1989, you might notice about 200 years of the USA growing from an upstart little brat that defied the lords of Europe and two centuries later became the single most powerful nation in the world, since when the "Cold War" ended, there weren't but one superpower left  During those two centuries there were a lot of Presidents serving the country, some better than others, and some cutting a bigger swath than others.  However, they all shared a lot in common starting with the fact that they all came from that same section of humanity, which is really a minority group, that today seem to get blamed for everything bad and not remembered for much of the good.

Now let me see, what are some of the things that theses leaders accomplished over two centuries?  Well of course there is the fact that the USA is the single most powerful country in the world.  And then there is that thing about being the wealthyist country in the world.  The USA also has the largest and most successful middle class in the history of the world.  The Good Old USA also has the most successful Democratic Republic in world history, which has provided more equality and justice for all than ever seen before.  It is also the nation that has contributed more help and aid to the rest of the world than most other nations combined.  Americans have also done more dying all over the planet to insure peace and safety. than any other country.  We stopped aggression in WWI and in WWII, and stopped the threat of nuclear annihilation by ending the Cold War.  We have saved more people, fed more people, clothed more people than any other nation.

We have enjoyed the status of being number one in most categories that count, and have provided a standard of living for our citizens admired by the entire planet.  That was the first two hundred years of the Good Old USA.  During these last twenty five or thirty years we have come under attack from without as well as from within, as we are led to believe that we have not done well by our fellow mankind and have much to be ashamed of, and the blame has been laid on that same minority group that provided us with presidents like George and Ronald with Abe and some others in between.

This group of individuals as well as belonging to that one minority section of humanity also shared many other traits, such as belief in God, The Rule of Law, The challenge of being responsible for one's self, and respectful of others. These presidents also shared a belief in their country and an obligation to contribute as a citizen to the well being of all.  Great leaders are know by their works rather than their words, and it is time to demand work rather than words from our leaders today.. The only way the American Dream can be kept alive is for us to pull together in a united effort to maintain and enhance what so many before have worked so hard for.

Scoop's Quips: "Liberals"

"Scoop's Quips"

I always thought that the definition of  "liberal" was to be open-minded and capable of accepting a variety of ideas as having some validity.  However, in today's world, I find the people who claim to be "Liberals" to be among the most closed-minded people around.  They are so sure that they are right about everything, that it never seems to occur to them that somebody else might be right some of the time.

As a matter of fact the only thing really liberal about Liberals is how liberal they are in spreading all that manure around about how wrong everybody else is.

Election USA 2016

"Scoop's Quips"

After watching all of the debates and viewing dozens of "news" stories revealing the dis-honest and sleazy nature of both candidates, as well as being subjected to an endless array of campaign ads which evidence a vulgar display of millions of wasted dollars, I have come to the only answer possible.  Neither of the two major party candidates is worthy of becoming President of the Good Old USA!  As I stated below a few months ago and I underscore at this date:

"Let's see, the election seems to be coming down to a two mule race between a Millionaire Professional Politician and a Billionaire Businessman who both claim to be People's Candidates.  Yeah Right, when do you think either one of them ever had to worry about the rent money?  Bascomb Biggers is still your best bet!"

Scoop's Quips: Opinions

"Scoop's Quips"

One of the biggest problems in today's society is everyone trying to voice their opinions at the same time.  Journalists don't report the news, they give their opinion, or at least the management's opinion.  You are constantly asked to take surveys and opinion polls for everything from politics to fanny-ribbon.  Which, come to think of it is about the same topic.  In addition to voicing our opinions, most of us feel compelled to let everyone we disagree with know our opinion on that as well.  This is a major cause for much of the dysfunction in our government, as well as our society. Well, at least that is my opinion!

Bascomb Biggers believes that a wise man keeps his own consul about most controversial topics, such as religion, politics and SEC football!
So, let your vote do your talking, and maybe others will also.

Something to Ponde

SOMETHING TO PONDER

As the 2016 election trail continues its twisted path, we may see a huge storm developing on the horizon.  America has been deeply divided over the years between "Liberals and Conservatives", with elections clearly rotating around these diverse viewpoints, with a lot of attention being paid to various special interests on both sides.

We now have the potential for a dramatic showdown between "Left and Right".  If Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump should face each in the general election for President in November of 2016, the American people will have a clear choice as to the future course of our country.  Both are on the outside of typical party lines, and both claim to support the working class where most of the anger against the establishment seems to originate.

Sanders is an acknowledged Socialist who believes the average citizen can best be served by a large powerful government whose ability to intercede in their lives, will provide a better quality of life by equalizing assets.

Trump is an acknowledged Capitalist who espouses a smaller government with a hard stand on foreign economic interest as a means to create more wealth for the working class.

It has been a long time since two opposing candidates both sought approval from the average worker with such different philosophies.  This may be the ultimate conflict between these two very different approaches, giving the American People a clear choice on our path for the future.

At any rate, neither the Republican Party, nor the Democrat Party leaders are in favor of this outcome.  It could divide the country even further, or perhaps create a more consolidated approach to the future.  It will not be politics as usual, but it will be interesting to watch.
(Of course, you can always vote for Bascomb)
